Many guards are sold by companies that only do gutters. We're roofers, so we fit them to the shingles, drip edge and pitch without nailing through the roof.
Before anything goes on, we clean and flush the gutters, fix leaking corners and sagging runs, and check the fascia behind them. If your gutters are past saving, we'll quote new seamless gutters with guards built in.

Winter
Ice dams and heat cables
When snow melts and refreezes at the roof edge, the ice can push water up under the shingles and into the house.
Guards help by keeping gutters clear so meltwater can drain. On edges where ice keeps building up, we can install heat cables along the roof and in the gutters and downspouts. We'll also check the attic, because poor ventilation and insulation are often the real cause.

Gutter guard questions
Are gutter guards worth it?
On tree-lined streets, usually yes. They cut down cleanings, keep water flowing to the downspouts and help prevent overflow, sagging and ice buildup. With few trees nearby, regular cleaning may be enough, and we'll tell you honestly.
Which gutter guard is best?
For pine needles and small seeds, micro-mesh. For mostly broad leaves, a perforated cover is a good value. Reverse-curve guards only work on the right roof pitch. We recommend one after looking at your trees and roof.
Can you put guards on my existing gutters?
Yes, if the gutters are in good shape and pitched correctly. We clean and flush them first and fix any sagging runs or leaking corners. If the gutters are failing, we'll suggest new seamless gutters with guards.
Do gutter guards void my roof warranty?
Guards that slide under the shingles or nail through them can cause problems. Because we're roofers, we install guards so they don't damage the roof edge.
Do guarded gutters ever need cleaning?
Much less often. Micro-mesh may need a light brush-off of the surface, and perforated covers an occasional flush. We can do that during a roof check.
What about ice dams in winter?
Guards help keep gutters clear so melting snow can drain. Where ice dams keep forming, we can add heat cables along the roof edge and gutters, and check your attic ventilation and insulation, which are often the real cause.
How much do gutter guards cost?
It depends on the type of guard, the length of your gutters and the height of the house. We give you a fixed price in writing after measuring.
